Illustration Friday - Cats

Illustration Friday - Cats

Mountain Lion - I made this about 10 years ago. The material was dyed then free-emboridered on a sewing machine. Then made up into a cushion.

The image was inspired by some rock art.

Cool! It has such a wild, primitive look...I guess it's the rock art influence. I love the colors, too.

I'm so good! :) I thought it was a painting on a rock until you explained that it was a cushion ~ inspired by rock art! The image is very primitive which I adore. the tie-dyed effect looks like veins ina rock, too.

Ah jist luuuurve it, Caroline. Free style embroidery? As in you didn't sketch the cat first? Ah luv it, luv it.

I like it Caroline! Primitive yet very modern. Remembers me of Lascaux!

Love the colors and the die effects. It also looks like a bit of batik also. Like the primative look also.

This is a fabulous piece. The claws are out of this world. The cat is soooo good. Very good work.

that mountain lion art is awesome, and it looks like it was a lot of fun to create. glad that's not a real cat on your chair - those claws would do some major damage to furniture!

ps thanks for your comment on my blog. i appreciate the kindness. i get frustrated from time to time; it's nice to know people understand!

The batik cat is amazing! That's just what I imagine cats looking like when they howl at night. Nice photo, too.

And atomicvelvetsigh - just in case you return here - trying to leave a comment on your site sent my browser into a spin and I had to force quit the browser to escape... before that just trying to open a comment window in my normal was wasn't possible as you seem to have disabled right clicking... so sorry I couldn't leave anything - and I do think your cat is stunning!
