Frogs are fast workers...
The day after Valentine's day and frogspawn has appeared in our pond!
We've been checking it two or three times a day since the beginning of February so that we could report the date of the first spawn to Springwatch.

Caroline, this is an amazing journey, one I admit I do not understand, but its meaningfulness for you is very clearly expressed here. Your images are so vivid and deeply evocative. Powerful post.
Howww do you do it, Caroline? Even your photos are rich. Look at the blues and greens!
Ah-ha! More fun wildlife right in your back yard (er...garden...)! I love this picture, Caro. And I love frogs, too.
How exciting! A benchmark for 2006 :-) The rhythms and cycles of nature resonate deeply with me.
Rebekah - I've a feeling that this comment was not intended for this posting... it seems more relevant to the one above. Thank you very much for reading about my journey - I do not understand it either - just explaining what the scenery looks like as I ride this particular wave.
GG - thank you - How do I do it? Well I take LOTS of photos and only show my favourites. And sometimes even then I'm disappointed ;-)
Wandering Coyote - seems like lots of fun for them - assuming they have a very different response to cold water from my one ;-) I hope that your love of frogs wasn't said with your chef's hat on! Such skinny little beasts...
Nan - Yes - and almost a fortnight later than last year (we weren't keeping as close a watch then but there was definitely spawn by the 2nd Feb 2005). We suspect the variation is due to humidity. In other words its been raining and with the rain the frogs have come! Yes, its your response to those cycles that is our link I think.
Yes, that's an important link for us. Had to laugh at your "take lots of pictures" comment. Me, too. So many rejects!!!!!!!! Digital photography has put us in 7th heaven--taking pics to our heart's content!
Of course taking photos is another link ;-)
Beautiful, beautiful photograph! Wow!
