Masked?

Masked?
Masked? - Painter IX

Ever since IF did a theme of Mask they've been on my mind. And whilst I was beginning to work on this earlier today Tammy sent me an email with lots of quotes about masks. This was the quote that seemed most appropriate to my theme:
Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell the truth.

Oscar Wilde
I was also thinking about ice cream scoops melting and mountain tops!

Steve tagged me yesterday. So here goes:

First, grab the nearest book, post the book's name and author's name on your blog:

"The Battersea Park Road to Enlightenment" by Isabel Losada

Next, turn to page 123, go to the fifth sentence on that page, now post the following three sentences to your blog:
The clouds are made of candyfloss; the moon is made of cheese.

Fifty-four lines later, I had stopped playing around and was beginning to look for the deeper level. I wrote:

57) I am now willing to be with a man I want who wants me.
Last, tag three others:

Suzie Q, Tinker, Andrea (no pressure of course!)

And anyone else who'd like to play too of course!

The mask thing - art/fiction - isn't that the mask that we seem to wear???

Oh that's a deep thought - I only came to wish you a very happy New Year.

How kind to drop in - have a sherry! (That's what my mother always used to offer New Year's wellwishers... I wonder if I've got any...)

Mine's too boring to post to my blog so I'll psot it here: "Natural ultramarine, in pigment form, is derived frpom the semi-precious stone lapis lazuli." ...etc. As you can probably guess, I'm in my studio, at my desk and the closest book is "The Artist's Handbook."

PS Cool mask image!

Andrea - since when was lapis lazuli boring? - its a wonderful stone! But I know what you mean - I had to go through several books to find one that even had writing on page 123! Thanks for playing!

Really nice mask, book sounds great too, might even dash over to Amazon and look at the cover, just curious, have found my Art Escapes cup and saucer, and have also done a very quick doodle for Camel exchange with your bird, hopefully all updated later!

Jo - it was a fun read. I'm looking forward to seeing your version of the bird!

Your mask picture reminds me of a Super hero... Perhaps the "Winged Soul Catcher": enlighten-er and healer! :D (i know, i'm a dork!)

Joy - that's a lovely thought, not at all dorky, at least to me ;-)

I did this one a while back, but I think it's one of my favorite tags, so I'll do it right now... From 'Living Yoga - A Comprehensive Guide for Daily Life,' edited by Feuerstein & Bodian (it's a 1993 compilation from Yoga Journal magazine): "Any of the popular relaxation methods could help us calm down and think more clearly. But they are only a beginning. A deeper level of stress management must not only alleviate symptomsm as drugs can do, but also help us to develop insight into our mental patterns and help our conditioned stress reactions."
This is actually my husband's book that's been knocked from the shelf by a cat, so it feels particularly synchronous. I think maybe I need to read more of the book!
Btw, you look lovely, peering out from behind your ice cream mask! Masks do free us to role play and speak up, don't they? Perhaps that's part of the attraction of blogging - our computer screens are our masks; hmmm, I'm going to ponder on that for a bit...

Caroline said...

Tinker - thanks for playing along and thanks to your cat too! And that quote does sound rather intriguing...

You are right about computer screens as masks... what a strange masked ball we'd make!

Oh, I'm grabbing this meme since I have nothing to write today and this one is a reader's dream! How fun!
(and thanks for the link)

Tammy thanks for playing too - I love books too!

Very nice Caroline--the mask speaks the truth (love the Wilde quote btw). And clouds made of candyfloss and cheese moons--talk about enlightenment!! Have a great weekend.

I'm fascinated by the many masks we wear for different people, situations. I know when I'm wearing one, and what kind.
