Punchline

Punchline - for Illustration Friday. Drawn using Corel Painter.

I found several different reference pictures of Mr Punch and drew my own versions of them... in a line. I think each of them is really hamming it up!

Digitally Painted in Corel Painter

Originally this had a bit of a jesterish Mr Punch in it but now it makes me think of forests and greenmen... what do you see in it?

Finally, here is an article I scanned from New Scientist a while ago :

Its conclusion is that our brains have decided what to do before we consciously decide... In other words our brain has decided for us before we know it... I'm not sure how this really works in practice... is consciousness simply a symptom of the way our brains are organised? Nor do I know whether or not this is good research or an appropriate conclusion to draw from it... my brain isn't giving me any clues...

Their experiment involved having to punch buttons... probably why I, or my brain, thought to put it in here.

The swirly greens suggest forests and Hern the Hunter. In my mind, Punch and Judy alsways has a seaside backdrop.
As for those research boffins...way too much spare time!(Well, that's what my brain told me to type!)

I see a large green fish looking straight at me through glass!

NO free will!?! I actually believe that to a certain degree but it's more about conditioning through the education system and 'learning' what's good or bad. Maybe our perceptions of everything are running about seven seconds behind ;)

I see a green frog and fish swimming about - love how the colors swirl on it.
I just realized I haven't been getting the IF prompts again...loved seeing your take on the prompt. Maybe it's cultural or perhaps it's because celebrations have been on my mind so much lately, my first thought about 'punch' is of a punchbowl. But your Punch is much more interesting!

Dinahmow - Yes I had started off with other colours in mind... though what really comes to mind for me with Punch and Judy is a drab dusty village hall...

Anonymous - yes I see that now too - looks a bit grumpy! And I'm with you on the not-educated to make choices idea, though of course I'm sure I do!

Tinker - time to sign up again! There are quite a variety of interpretations of punchline up this week. With some terrible jokes amongst them!

Your take on Mr. Punch in a line is very funny! And I clearly see a big green fish, fins out to the side, mouth open wide!
Now I'm going back to read the article.

You mean the hours I spend weighing the options are a complete waste of time? I have a terrible time making decisions! BTW what's up with Bloglines? Still no updates. I keep forgetting to look!

Studio Lolo - thanks - I hope you were able to read it!

Andrea - they had a really good bit of research about decision making last year... I'll see if I can dig it up...

Connie - thank you - that's very kind of you to say so.

Yes... 7 posts just came in in Bloglines... but now I realise yours wasn't the only neglected blog. There were others that have come in with 12 and 15 posts!

I see a very Dr, Seuss-ish character there. Can't think of a name right now, though!

Lovely to see your Wedding photos! I see green horses, and dolphins and a couple of green gremlins too!

My favorite line:

Ketch: ...You are to be hung by the neck until you are dead, dead, dead!

Punch: What three times over?
