Illustration Friday - Jungle
Digitally coloured in Painter IX. Drawn in black felt tip.
In this weeks trawl through pictures drawn in my youth I found this:
I think it was an illustration for "Tiger, tiger burning bright, In the forests of the night." I must have had a thing about tigers that I've now completely forgotten. And most of them were odd colours, I was especially keen on green cats (which might have been why I had this dream about a Chartreuse Cat), so in colouring this in I went for the sort of colours I might have used at the time. Though I suspect the Caroline who painted these orchids might have used more colours....

Those are the biggest flowers I've ever seen! Or the smallest tiger...
Caroline - I love this! Its so fine and full of magical fantasy! You've created a little jungle world. It looks marvelous both ways, too. The black and white version nmakes me think of an illustration from an old book, and the colored one creates a very lush, floor of the forest feeling. Very nice!!!
It looks like you've had fun with these. I love the orchids
i love this!!! Your kinda jungle is my kinda jungle, i think i hear tarzan!!! Love the orchids too!
This is so beautiful!
This has a definitely youthful air about it -- the flowers and decorative bits. It must be fun to add colour and see it in a whole new light after all these years...
Caroline how fun it must be to visit art from your youth.
And to see it in a whole new light and be able to paint it now.
Love the patterns you created with this picture.
Wish i had art from my past.
That is neat, how you used colours you might have chosen back then. Did you feel like a kid at heart doing this one or what? It's very fun.
I think its a tabby cat plaaying in the garden
Davem gets the prize* - except he missed out that its a tabby cat dreaming of being a tiger...

Oh, I love this!! and for some reason it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland.
Caroline in Dreamland! Hmmm!
Wonderful and dreamy: it deserves to be present in a fairytale book.
lov the way u colored this in it has a wonderful feeling to it
this is delightful... dreaming of a charteuse cat should have some great significance!
Thanks Caroline.
Now what shall I spent it on....................
Cool picture- every once in a while I check out old work I've done & walk down memory lane myself. "Tiger Tiger" was the basis for "The Stars My Destination" by Bester, one of my favorite books.
this is great, caroline. i wish i had some old work to look back on. all gone now! hey, i thought about tiger tiger too! - but i didn't know blake did illos for his poem.
This is luscious! I like both a great deal. The black and white drawing is elegant and realistic while the top just pops with life and color.
Great job on this weeks theme!

Beautiful experimentation with a variety of flowers. Blake's illuminated works are certainly inspiring. Perfect choice.
Love this jungle!
Is chartreuse the new black for cats :-)
Very creative illustration, Caroline!
Wow, it's so cool to see that your talent goes way back! I love the black and white version as well...there is just something about the lines. A really beautiful job!
quite colorful and very deep… love the green tiger an dthe red tree… everything has such an otherworldly feel… it's fun to revisit the past… i'm glad you shared…
Beautiful! I especially love the sunflower with the butterly (I LOVE sunflowers!)... The orchids below are exquisite!
