Blind Contour Self Portrait

Blind Contour Self Portrait
I was tagged by Janey to do a blind contour self-portrait. I had commented on hers, which are fun and I'd also admired both Julie's moving gif version and Wally Torta's Monsterboy version.

I tried to make a moving gif but I haven't managed that yet, instead I got the odd composite above.

I used several different coloured pens and tried various positions and distances from the mirror. I did them all on separate pieces of paper... but I prefer them this way!

And since I was tagged to do this, I'll pass the tag on to Holly, oh and Andrea and Lyn 'cos I owe them tags...

I like the way it's turned out - it's good that you did each one with a different colour pen. I like your new masthead too - reminds me that mine is past its sell by date!

Thanks Julie. I keep on seeing my banner as looking too much like a tablecloth... so I may change it again soon...

My goodness it's a world wind, swirls of color and there's a person in there too. Like it lots.

Oh thank you for the tag. I like how you produced this. Very smart. This will be my Sunday project. Can't wait. Cheers!

Thanks for looking in Wally. Yours were a lot more together even if you were being a monster!

Glad you are happy to be tagged, Holly, I look forward to seeing your verion.

I've linked you on my site.

I get a headache looking at this! Well, not literally. But it's strikes me as "stormy" for some reason. I can't quite put my finger on how to say it...

I typically don't "get" art, though. It's just not a language I understand...

wandering coyote - I think you show a great deal of insight - I was developing a headache as I did it and it emerged later...

Okay -- now I'm inspired. This is too cool. Maybe I'll try doing it in silver on black ... just thinking out loud ...

Andrea - silver on black sounds wonderful!

Melba - I'll have guests here soon and then I'll probably have to take a break from posting and commenting too...

This looks like a lot of fun, but I have to say the result is a little disconcerting. I think it's the strange eyes. I always react to eyes. I like the colors.

Yes it is disconcerting isn't it.

I've just done some more but decided not to post more for now. I'm reduced to fits of giggles when I look at one I've just done... so now I know what to do if I need cheering up!

Caroline, I'm glad I found you after you found me. Or something. You have a silly sense of humor that is faintly familiar (heh heh) and I do very much like your colorful, wormy BC portrait.

It is the start of a whole new style, Caro!
The only thing is that a shrink might see into it stuff you never really meant to divulge!

I'm not sure what 'blind' means, does it mean you close your eyes and draw, or you don't look at yourself in the mirror, just draw from 'memory' of what you look like?

I looooove this portrait.

I'm going to pass on your blog link to my cousin who draws / paints but had stopped for a while and can't seem to get back in the groove now.

Hi Laura - thanks for coming by. Yes I have a silly sense of humour... good job you do too!

cream - I doubt its a new style - more a revisit of an old one - unless you mean a new hair and make-up style - oh no!!!

GG - a blind contour is usually done by looking at the object that you are drawing but not letting yourself look at all at the drawing. I like doing feelies as well. Those are done with the eyes closed, and you feel the object with one hand and draw with the other.

Your cousin would be welcome to stop by!

See, I told you I learn a lot here...that's interesting, Caro.
