In the pink
I mentioned in the last post that Jim has been digging. We've got quite a lot of little plants sprouting away in the potting shed, ready to put in once the bed is really ready... and loads of seeds. Aren't these spring onions a great colour on the packet? I wonder what they'll look like if we get them to grow...
This clematis is one that I planted at least four years ago... it was a runty bargain at the time and consequently did nothing for ages... but look at it now! Huge great flowers on it! Rather larger than I'd have chosen if I'd realised...
In fact in many ways I prefer Herb Robert, despite its status as a weed. It does self-seed well but its very easy to pull up and when pulled at it smells absolutely gorgeous... so an extraordinary well-behaved weed really. And look where it choose to grow:
It planted itself in my gravel "garden" and I love it there.
Today is my ex-husband's birthday. I've no address or email for him but if he happens upon this - Happy Birthday Steve! In exactly a week it will be Jim's birthday and one week after that Jim's mother's. Funny how they are all strung out a week apart. Now I need some ideas of what to give Jim for his birthday... any suggestions?

Good collection of pink things! The spring onions might look pink like that after you wash them, I like to decorate my kitchen windows with glasses of bulbs like that :) My Eldest's birthday is soon (party this weekend) and I can only suggest what NOT to buy as a present for Jim. Like an electric guitar, drums, stereo system ... but hey Jim already has things like that as a musician, I'm sure ;)
Anonymous - you mean I'll have to wash them? Argh... :-)
Jim already has an electric bass, an acoustic guitar and far too much electrical equipment... yesterday he got a remote control that works with itunes, iphoto etc. etc. and is delighted with it... he has said he'd like a new laptop... but that's rather expensive... still thinking...
I must have missed reading the title of the post, and am only now noticing the pink theme. Love how the herb robert fits so well in that gravel-garden. Beautiful.
Birthday gift ideas? No. I'm useless. My son's birthday is Tuesday, and I can't think of a single thing he'd like that he hasn't already got. I did manage a great gift last year for his 21st, but I think that's a not-to-be-repeated event.
I've given it some thought, and I think you should probably get Jim a monkey.
I'm sure your spring onions will come out wonderfully, they rather tend to grow themselves, in my experience, and the nasties leave them be; perfect, easy garden veg.
Imelda - Its making me wonder if I ought to make a rather larger gravel garden... one more garden and less pot like... So your son is of this season too... at least its not near Christmas so its only one present to think of now.
CMS - Hi Colin. Yes I'm sure a monkey would be a good idea... ever since we gave Jim's nephew Alex some magnetic monkeys and had a lovely thank you letter back in which Alex called them Munces Jim has gone on about them.
And I'm really glad to hear the nasties leave spring onions alone... we have a lot of nasties in our garden.
